While strolling through the Picasso museum in Málaga and listening to an explanation of Picasso’s life and works, a quote that was said particularly inspired me. Those gripping words were, “through art, we express our conception of what nature is not”. When I heard this phrase, it immediately gripped me, entirely capturing my attention and provoking thoughts about a craft so beautiful and unparalleled to any other. Something about it rings absolutely true. Every art is a form of creating something, sometimes real and sometimes not, but the most exceptional thing about it is creating beauty out of something ordinary. That is the skill of a true artist, not painting objects for what they seem to be, but painting beyond them.
Feeling particularly inspired by the paintings in the museum, and the ambiance of Picasso’s hometown, I decided to incorporate an unusual element in these photos. Something unique, and slightly quirky, an eye. The look I was wearing that day was something pretty laid-back, but that could be dressed up with some heels and a fine overcoat. The blouse I’m wearing is perfectly aligned with the Victorian trend which has come in this season. Victorian times were all about over the top silhouettes and elegant trim. This year’s trend sees certain elements of this era represented in more subtle ways. To accessorize this simpler look, I layered on some gold and rose gold jewelry which really made this look shine. I pulled my hair back in a half up bun to show off the stunning detailing on the blouse and this edgy necklace.
