Not a New Year’s Resolution

It’s impossible for me to grasp the fleeting instants, the hands of time that tick endlessly, but there is one thing I can do: I can live. I can make every moment count, render it meaningful. Even though I have learned to value the precious instants, and acknowledge moments that have left me hurt, I believe in change. That is why every year I try to set myself 3 to 4 goals to accomplish in the next 12 months; for my personal growth, whether that might be as a blogger, student, or human being. When I set myself a goal it’s because I will achieve it, unlike those ‘new year’s resolutions’ that are forgotten after days, or weeks. Creating these objectives is my way of achieving everything I want to do and structuring my time, projects, and life. This year, I knew that I wanted to change some of my bad habits; but more importantly, I wanted to change my mindset about different aspects of my life to have a more positive attitude and overall, a happier life.

This year I’m making it my priority to wake up in a good mood, not just this year – but for the rest of my life. It sounds scary even writing it, but I know that with patience and time it’s possible. I’ve already made a lot of progress on this goal, and we’re only 6 days into the year! My secret? SLEEPING! I never realized how valuable my sleep was until I started sleeping more than 5-6 hours every night! But I’ll admit, making my tea extra strong in the morning doesn’t hurt.

This one might seem ironic considering that I spend most of my free-time blogging, but I would actually like to spend less time on the internet, and more time doing things I’m passionate about. Being inspired by the things in my non-virtual life, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Making even the most insignificant moments count; that’s what I want to do. I want to bury myself in books; go out and photograph the beautiful city I live in. I want to spend more time on myself and nurture all of the projects and crazy ideas my brain fabricates. These things might seem meaningless to some. But to me, these are the things that will make me a better blogger and a more balanced human being. I’ll always be present on social media, and I won’t abandon my blog, but I’ll spend more time with my friends and family, enjoy the beauty of this planet, and do all the things I would be doing if I didn’t waste away so many hours on my phone.

Two words can rule everything you do, and everything you let yourself do. Yes and no. Opportunity and loss. I’m guilty of saying no, not only to myself and to others, but to everything life has or hasn’t given me. This year I want to say yes, oui, si, ja, or whatever you might call it. Seize the opportunities and say yes to making mistakes. That’s what I’m going to do.

Another thing I’ve been trying to do since the new year, is pay more attention to my social media networks by posting less ‘personal’ pictures and focusing more on editorial-like content. If you follow me on Instagram, then you might have noticed it, and if you follow me on Twitter then you might have seen my tweet about my twitter ‘epiphany’ so get ready for many, many more tweets. I also want to start doing a follow Friday on twitter to interact with other bloggers and see their lovely content! Any thoughts? Have a beautiful day, and stay strong, Friday’s almost here!

XOXO, Sofia
